What Anxiety Is

Anxiety…

It’s secretive- it lurks beneath the shadows and
catches us often when we did not expect it to
it has its patterns, it can still surprise us
it can be quietly looming in the shadows,

it can be actively searching for new stimuli, to constantly feed and grow on us
it’s devious- it conjures up images and scenarios that are our worst nightmares
it’s convincing- it tricks our brain into believing the most irrational of thoughts

it creates new reasons or a new time every day to visit us,
but also sticks to its routine- arriving without fail
after waking up, after a cup of tea, before taking shower, before stepping out

it is the darkness that consumes our body and brain
with a ferocity unknown to folks who have never experienced it.
There are folks who underestimate Anxiety and believe themselves to be strong,
because doesn’t Anxiety choose only the weak to prey on?

Little do they know the strength behind the smiles and finished deadlines
strength behind waking up and getting out of bed
strength behind just existing and functioning
strength behind not giving up
the strength to live with Anxiety.

Here’s to all my fellow anxiety warriors. Comment below how do you experience anxiety and how have you managed to tame it. You can also write to me on dikshajmaurya@gmail.com to share your experiences or if you are just looking for someone to vent to.

I have a hundred thoughts racing through my mind all day- vivid and visual. Since I cannot draw, words are all I have.
